The client: A Chichester-based printing company, referred to LMS Computer Services by an existing client.
The brief: The company used a wireless network across two buildings. The signal would often drop out, cutting off network and internet access. There was only basic protection on the wireless network and all data was stored on individual computers with no backup. Also, there was no centralised storage. Furthermore, the company was operating a lightweight email system, which meant they had problems receiving large attachments sent regularly by clients.
The service: LMS Computer Services installed a new network using Cat6 cabling, which linked the two buildings together, providing greater security and faster transfer speeds. An old printer was replaced with a multifunction device and new laptops were supplied, along with a backup and disaster recovery system. A new email server was also installed, allowing the company to receive large email attachments. Finally, a virtual private network (VPN) was set up to allow employees remote access to the network using a 3G connection.
